SPOKANE, Wash. — After two overnight closures and hours of demolition, I-90 on Freya and Division is now open after the demolition of the Magnolia Street Pedestrian bridge.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) posted a Tweet early on Sunday, announcing both lanes of the highway are back open after almost 10 hours of overnight work. Crews demolished the last of the Magnolia Street bridge and cleaned up fallen debris on both sides of the highway.
Pictures posted by WSDOT showed the progress of the demolition.
WSDOT first closed the bridge in early February after an inspection found cracks and other issues with the walkway. In the first demolition, a large chunk of the bridge was taken out over the highway. The latest closures severed as cleanup for any leftover traces of the walkway.
While the Magnolia Street bridge has been open for over 50 years, WSDOT knew it was time to take it down for pedestrian safety.
