SPOKANE, Wash. — Drivers coming into Spokane on eastbound I-90 will soon notice some new additions to one of the on-ramps.
Traffic workers with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) are activating two new ramp meters on the Geiger/Grove interchange on eastbound I-90. The ramp meters will be activated at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13.
Ramp meters help space out and control how many vehicles enter the freeway at one time. They work like regular traffic lights by flashing red when cars need to stop, and flashing green when they can proceed to the freeway.
The ramp meters at the Geiger/Grove interchange will be on the eastbound I-90 on-ramp; the first one will be at the directional on-ramp from northbound Grove Road and the second one will be on the loop on-ramp from southbound Grove Road.
Both ramp meters will operate at the same time every day. On weekdays, the ramp meters will be on from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. When the meters are not being used, drivers can use the on-ramps to get to the freeway without stopping.
More information about the ramp meters can be found here.
