SPOKANE, Wash. — Drivers in the Inland Northwest will likely notice a big jump at the gas pump the next time they go to fill up.
Prices in Spokane jumped 14 cents per gallon in the last week, according to fuel analyst GasBuddy. The average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.75.
Prices have been slowly rising over the past month but this last week marked a big increase. Over the past month, prices in Spokane are 22.6 cents per gallon higher.
"A majority of the nation's 50 states have seen gasoline prices rise, with the national average posting a gain for the second straight week," Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said.
In Washington state, prices are averaging $4.08 per gallon. Prices in Idaho are up 10 cents per gallon in the last week and now sit at $3.09 per gallon on average.
De Haan warns prices will likely keep going up in the next few weeks.
"The pinch at the pump has been manageable for now, with prices about 30 cents higher than mid-January, but that will likely change as we enter the madness we tend to see in March with refinery maintenance hitting its peak, impacting how much gasoline can be produced as we make the changeover to the summer blends," De Haan explained. "This always crimps supply, leading to further gas price increases."
