Person hospitalized in Maple and Garland crash dies

The charges against the suspect, Jermaine Green, will now be upgraded to vehicular homicide.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) responded to a crash that happened on North Maple Street and West Garland Avenue in North Spokane on Thursday morning. One person was sent to the hospital in critical condition, but SPD confirmed Friday that the person died.

The crash happened at 11:12 a.m. on Thursday. Two vehicles collided, and a third one was hit. The third car only had minor bumps and was removed from the scene. There was one person in each car that was hit.

The driver of the speeding car, Jermaine Green, attempted to run away, but witnesses on the scene pointed him out. Police and a K-9 unit found him about three blocks away with minor injuries.

Green was detained on a suspicion of DUI but was ultimately arrested for vehicular assault and hit and run. He is currently in the Spokane County Jail.

The victim was driving a black truck that was traveling north on Maple, while the suspect's silver car was driving eastbound on Garland. Authorities do not know how fast the silver car was driving at the time of the crash.

The victim's truck rolled over from the impact and knocked down a street sign.

Due to the severity of the crash, the intersection was closed for several hours. The street opened just before 4 p.m.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is made available.
