IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho — One person was killed and another was seriously injured after a pickup truck lost the ability to brake and drove off the road in Idaho County on Saturday afternoon.
The Idaho State Police (ISP) says the Idaho County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash near Elk City Summit Road and Newsome Creek Road.
ISP says the pickup truck was traveling westbound on Elk City Summit Road when it lost the ability to brake, causing the truck to drive off the road and go up an embankment before rolling.
The 57-year-old driver was not injured, but his 67-year-old passenger was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital and his 41-year-old passenger died on the scene.
ISP says the roadway was closed for almost 4 hours in both directions as emergency responders worked on the scene. ISP says the driver and the passenger who died were not wearing seatbelts.
ISP is investigating the crash. They say alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the cause of the crash.
