SPOKANE, Wash. — If you plan on driving on North Monroe Street in Spokane on Monday, July 8, the City of Spokane says you will need to make changes to your commute.
The City of Spokane said all northbound and southbound lanes of North Monroe Street between Kiernan Avenue and Francis Avenue will be closed as crews do grind and overlay work in the area.
The City also said the intersection at West Garland Avenue and North Monroe Street will also be closed on Monday, July 8.
The City recommends using Maple Street, Ash Street, Division Street, Post Street and Wall Street to get around the traffic on Monday. The City says if you are driving in the area of the construction that day, you are urged to use the designated detour routes in the area.
The City said North Monroe Street is expected to reopen for commuters by Tuesday, July 9.
The City said the grind and overlay project in the area is part of the City's Six Year Comprehensive Streets plan "to maintain 2,200 lane miles of streets and also includes signal work and ADA-compliant sidewalk improvements," according to a press release sent from the City of Spokane Friday afternoon.
"The grind and overlay method is favored because of its ability to efficiently extend the lifespan of existing roadways while preserving safety and aesthetics," the City also said in the release.
