SPOKANE, Wash. — A new electric vehicle car-sharing program is coming to Spokane in June.

Seattle-based car-sharing firm Zero Emission Vehicle Cooperative (ZEV Co-op) is teaming up with Urbanova, Gonzaga University and Avista to develop this program.

The new program allows anyone to borrow a car by joining ZEV CO-op, and you'll need to pay an hourly fee to use the car. Vehicle charging stations are behind Gonzaga's Sustainability Office on Sharp Avenue, across the street from College Hall.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the program is set for Tuesday, June 4 at noon at the Sustainability Office at 521 E. Sharp Ave.

“We know folks will jump at the chance to access these clean, carbon-free vehicles to get to job interviews, community service projects, and other appointments around town,” said Jim Simon, director of GU’s Office of Sustainability. “We’re located in the Logan neighborhood, and it’s particularly exciting that local residents also will have convenient access to the cars as well. With overhead costs such as insurance and maintenance covered by ZEV Co-op, these vehicles are an affordable option when bus transportation isn’t practical.”

ZEV Co-op was founded in 2021 and has the long-term goal of having 250 electric vehicles for use by 2026.
