SEATTLE — Boeing employees are getting notices this week for company-wide layoffs.
The company announced last month it would reduce its workforce by about 10% to cut costs.
“I was pretty much just told my last day will be Nov. 27," said a Boeing employee who wants to remain anonymous. "I think it said I had until Dec. 2 to bring back my hardware and all of that stuff."
The anonymous employee said he got his notice first thing Wednesday morning.
“I was thinking we’d be kept on through the holidays," the employee said.
According a KING 5 source, the timeline for layoffs is as follows:
- Nov. 13-15: Layoff notices given
- Nov. 18: Employees receive layoff documents and are eligible for career transition services
- Nov.20 Employees attend virtual layoff meeting
- Jan. 2: Deadline to complete layoff documents
- Jan. 17: Laid-off employees leave the company
“You know in the back of my mind I’m like 'Crap it could be me,' but I didn’t legitimately think it would be," the employee said.
He's worked at Boeing for five years and works at the Everett Factory in fulfillment. This is not his first time experiencing layoffs with the company
“This is my second time being laid off within the last three years so it leaves a sour taste in my mouth," he said. "So I definitely don’t want to come back here - at least any time soon. I thought I would be a little more sad but I’m honestly more frustrated and kind of mad with the company.”
KING 5 asked Boeing what specific positions were being eliminated and which locations would be affected. Boeing said they will not be sharing that level of detail.
