Recycling just got easier in Spokane with a new app

The app takes the guesswork out of recycling by easily allowing you to search for the item you want to throw away.

SPOKANE, Wash — Recycling at home, or anywhere for that matter, can be more confusing than it should be.

Fortunately, high-tech help is on the way. Residents of Spokane, King and Snohomish counties can now use an app from Waste Management to help sort out where to put your trash.

You can download the WM CartWise mobile app via the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The app takes the guesswork out of recycling by easily allowing you to search for the item you want to throw away.

The search results reveal where to put your trash, when you should put your bins out and ways to curb more use of recyclable and non-recyclable materials.

“Recycling right is more critical than ever to ensure our local recycling program is strong and sustainable,” said Tami Yager, Public Sector Solutions manager for Waste Management. “The CartWise app is an important part of our work to make recycling easy in Spokane County.”

Waste Management and Spokane County developed the innovative app through a new partnership focused on reducing waste and educating the public about sustainability.
