LAS VEGAS — After a historic night Friday night for the Spokane Chiefs, two more players were selected in the 2024 NHL Draft on Saturday, June 29.
Following the Seattle Kraken took Chiefs forward Berkly Catton with the number eight pick in the draft, defensemen Will McIsaac and Nathan Mayes were taken by the St. Louis Blues and the Toronto Maple Leafs, respectively.
The Blues took McIsaac with the 145th overall pick in this year's draft. McIsaac is the first defenseman taken out of Spokane since Graham Sward was taken by Nashville in 2022. McIsaac finished his second full season with the Chiefs with career highs in goals (6), assists (21) and points (27), improving his plus-minus from -15 last season to +15 this season.
McIsaac was taken 28th overall by Spokane in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
Mayes, on the other hand, was taken with the final pick in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Maple Leafs. Mayes is the third Spokane Chief to be selected by the Maple Leafs.
In 74 games with the Spokane Chiefs, Mayes totaled 17 points, scoring a goal and assisting 15 times in his rookie season. Mayes was selected 51st overall in the 2021 NHL Prospects Draft.
The Spokane Chiefs 2024-25 schedule was released just last week. The 2024-25 season will start in September.
