SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Velocity have found their new number 10, as the club has inked former MLS midfielder Luis Gil to a contract.
Gil was selected by the Kansas City Wizards in a lottery after signing a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer in 2010.
Gil wanted to play on the west coast, so the Wizards traded him to Real Salt Lake, where he spent the first six years of his professional career.
In 2014, Gil was called up to the United States men's national team and made two caps for the senior squad.
In 134 appearances for RSL, Gil scored 11 goals. In 2016, he signed with Queretaro of Liga MX.
In 2017 and 2018, Gil was loaned out three separate times, but did help the Houston Dynamo win the 2018 US Open Cup by making three appearances and registering an assist.
After spending two seasons in the Czech Republic, Gil joined USL League One in 2022, and has been productive in two seasons with Union Omaha. He scored three goals in 49 games.
Gil brings a wealth of experience and high level American soccer to Spokane. The 30 year old will play attacking midfield for the Velocity.
