WINDSOR, Colo. — Spokane soccer fans rejoice! Spokane Velocity F.C. won its first playoff match in club history defeating the Northern Colorado Hailstorm 3-0.
This was the second meeting between the two clubs in a span of 14 days with the Velocity seeking its first win since September 7.
After a goalless first half, Spokane struck first in the 53rd minute as captain Luis Gil put a loose ball in the box past the Hailstorm goalkeeper to put the Velocity up 1-0.
11 minutes later, Spokane doubled its lead as a gorgeous cross from Javier Martin Gil found the boot of Anuar Peláez to put Spokane up 2-0.
Then four minutes later, the Velocity put the nail in the coffin with a lovely strike from the top of the box by Jack Denton to go up 3-0 and seal the victory.
Spokane becomes the first expansion club to win a playoff game in its inaugural season in USL League One history.
Now, the Velocity is just two wins away from a league championship in its first season as a club.
Spokane will travel to Madison, Wisconsin next weekend to face Forward Madison F.C. in the semifinals.
