SPOKANE, Wash. — The fans in the McCarthey Athletic Center went wild when they saw former Gonzaga forward Rui Hachimua make a surprise appearance at Gonzaga men's basketball Senior Night on Saturday.
He came through the tunnel the team enters for games wearing a collared shirt. Soon enough he took that shirt off to reveal he was wearing his old Gonzaga jersey.
Hachimura played for the Zags from 2016-2019. He skipped his senior season to pursue the NBA. He was drafted ninth overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards.
Hachimura was selected the 2019 West Coast Conference Player of the Year. He averaged nearly 20 points per game in his final year at Gonzaga, which led the team.
He was also selected to the Associated Press All-American second team in his junior season.
