SEATTLE — The Seattle Kraken opened NHL free agency with a bang today agreeing to deals with a pair of former Stanley Cup champions.
The Kraken began the day agreeing to a seven year, $49.98 million deal with former Florida Panthers defenseman Brandon Montour.
Montour helped lead the Panthers to a Stanley Cup victory last week. The right defenseman had eight goals and 33 points in 66 games this season.
General Manger Ron Francis jumped at the opportunity to sign Montour especially with defenseman Justin Schultz being an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Seattle was not done either as the Kraken also agreed to a seven year, $43.75 million deal with former Vegas Golden Knights winger Chandler Stephenson.
Stephenson had 16 goals and 51 points in 75 games for the Golden Knights this season.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Tomas Tatar are both unrestricted free agents and Kailer Yamamoto, Matty Beniers and Eeli Tolvanen are restricted free agents, so forward is certainly an area of concern for the Kraken this offseason.
Seattle, under new head coach Dan Bylsma, will open the season October 8th at home against the St. Louis Blues
