Seahawks restructure Jones contract for salary cap space

The Seattle Seahawks and defensive lineman Dre'mont Jones agreed to restructure his contract to reduce his cap number by $7.4 million.

RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks and defensive lineman Dre'mont Jones have given the team more breathing room in salary cap space.  Both sides agreed to restructure his contract to reduce his cap number by $7.4 million, which gives Seattle $8.5 million in cap space.

Jones agreed to change $9.875 million of his 2024 salary into a signing bonus, according OvertheCap.com.  Seattle can spread that bonus amount over the rest of his contract to lower his cap number.  His cap number this season will be $10.77 million.  It was at $18.1 million.

Jones was due $11 million in base salary this season.  They have to pay him the minimum in base salary, then they switched the rest to a bonus.

Seattle also used two void years in 2026 and 2027 to help spread out $4.9 million in owed payments.

Jones initially signed a 3-year contract in March of 2023 worth $51.5 million.

The Hawks had about $1.1 million in cap space prior to the restructured deal.  The eight million dollar plus cap space will help the team make moves and fill spots on the roster, in case of injury.
