EUGENE, Ore. -- Washington State sealed its 45-38 double-overtime winover Oregon in Eugene thanks to an interception by safety Shalom Luani. This not only snapped the Cougars 8-game losing streak to the Ducks, but prompted some clever tweeting by Wazzu's official account.

The Ducks happened to be wearing some Oregon Trail commemorative uniforms to celebrate their state's history.

So immediately after the final whistle, the Cougars tweeted an old-school jab to finish off the night, referencing everybody's favorite computer game.

The Oregon Ducks were celebrating the state's history with the new uniform. It included a silhouette of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark along with the Oregon Duck on a helmet decal, a 33-star flag on the back of the helmet to represent the United States flag when Oregon was accepted into the union and lines on the helmet that represent the Oregon Trail.

Here are more details about the uniforms, as described in a statement from the University of Oregon:

Oregon is a state that has bred innovators, freethinkers and risk-takers since its founding. Nike co-founder Phil Knight is the quintessential example, starting a company by selling shoes out of a car trunk and turning it into a $30 billion powerhouse. Despite Nike's impressive evolution, he and his wife, Penny, still refer to themselves as "just a couple of kids from Oregon."

This maverick heritage is similarly embodied by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who introduced Oregon to the east in 1805, as a part of the Corps of Discovery commissioned by Thomas Jefferson. Aptly, the explorers serve as the key inspiration behind the new Oregon Pioneers football uniform, a freshly designed Nike Mach Speed uniform exclusively for the Ducks.
