INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – College of Idaho head men's basketball coach Scott Garson was named today the recipient of the 2015 Red Auerbach College Coach of the Year Award.

The Red Auerbach Award is given annually to the nation's top Jewish college coach, as voted on by the members of the Jewish Coaches Association. Garson was honored this morning at the JCA's annual breakfast prior to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball national semifinals.

In his second season as head coach of the Yotes, Garson guided C of I to a 30-6 record and an undefeated season at home. The Yotes won their second-straight Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season and post-season title, advancing to the NAIA Division II national quarterfinals. His teams are a combined 58-12 over the past two seasons and are a perfect 34-0 inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Other finalists for the award included Southern Methodist head coach Larry Brown; Wyoming head coach Larry Shyatt; Phoenix CC head coach Matt Gordon; and Northwest Florida State CC head coach Steve DeMeo.

The JCA named its college coach of the year award after Red Auerbach, the coaching legend who won 938 games (a record at his retirement) and nine National Basketball Association (NBA) championships as a coach. As general manager and team president of the Celtics, he won an additional seven NBA titles, for a grand total of 16 in a span of 29 years, making him one of the most successful team officials ever in the history of professional sports.
