MOSCOW, Idaho — On the heels of their heartbreaking season ending loss, three Idaho Vandals announced they are entering the transfer portal. Quarterback Gevani McCoy, running back Anthony Woods and defensive back Marcus Harris announced on Monday morning that they will be moving on from Moscow.
According to Rivals.com, the Vandals are losing first team All-Big Sky quarterback Gevani McCoy to the transfer portal. McCoy was the Jerry Rice Award winner for the top FCS freshman last year and was voted as a team captain for the 2023 season. In his 26 games as the Vandal QB, McCoy threw for nearly 6,000 yards, 43 touchdowns and had a 65 percent completion percentage. McCoy won the starting spot during 2022 camp and never relinquished the position.
Another huge loss for the Vandals is first team All-Big Sky running back Anthony Woods. Woods has been on campus in Moscow since 2022 and has been a starter the entire time. In 24 games with the Vandals, Woods tallied 2,027 rushing yards on 355 attempts. He scored 20 total touchdowns, 19 rushing and one receiving.
In a Twitter post, Woods said, “I want to give all praise and glory to God for guiding and blessing me with the opportunities that I’ve had. I would like to thank Coach Eck, Ford, Slice, & the entire Idaho coaching and training staff for believing in me and fiving me an opportunity to play D1 football…. With that being said, after prayer and conversation with my family, I’m entering my name into the transfer portal with two years of eligibility and a redshirt year remaining.”
First team All-Big Sky defensive back Marcus Harris has been a stalwart of the Vandals defense. He played in all 36 of the Vandals games from 2021-2023. Harris started every game during the last two seasons tallying five interceptions, 104 tackles and a half sack. He was also responsible for two pick-sixes for the Vandals in his career.
In a Twitter post, Harris said, “The hospitality and support that I have received over the last few years has been great. The memories and relationships that I’ve created with my brothers are ones that will last forever. To my coaches, I thank you all for believing in me and pushing me to be the best I can be… With that being said, for my final year of eligibility I will be entering my name into the transfer portal.”
Wide receiver Terez Traynor entered the portal late Monday. He had 381 yards receiving and two touchdowns on the season.
