Idaho Vandals prepared to fend off 'spoiler' Weber State

Weber State has played spoiler before, and they hope to do it again as the Vandals look to complete their first perfect home season since 1996.

MOSCOW, Idaho — The Vandals play their last regular season home game at the Kibbie Dome on Saturday, with the hope of playing a perfect home season for the first time since 1996.

They're coming off of a win and a big performance from Big Sky co-offensive player of the week, Deshaun Buchanan, who rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns.

Standing in their way is Weber State, a team that is 3-7 this year, but has a knack for playing spoiler, including last season.

“You never know how these teams are going to respond," Head Coach Jason Eck said. "We certainly can’t let a team like this play harder than us because they’re more in the spoiler role now where we’re having tangible things to play for, but I want to make that clear to our team that this team was kind of in this role last year too, they weren’t a playoff team last year, but they spoiled us from winning a conference championship. If we would’ve won that game, and we had a lead early, we would have been co-champions last year.”

Eck also said starting quarterback Jack Layne's status is still up in the air as he is still dealing with wrist pain. If he's unable to start, they hope to at least have him dressed and ready to play if necessary.

Kickoff Saturday in the Kibbie Dome is set for 5 p.m.
