Idaho Vandals quarterback Jack Layne out for several weeks due to broken collarbone

Backup QB Jack Wagner will take over in the meantime.

MOSCOW, Idaho — The Idaho Vandals will be without their starting quarterback for the next few weeks.

Starting QB Jack Layne had surgery after breaking his collarbone on Saturday and will be out for several weeks.

In the Vandals' 24-14 loss against Oregon in Eugene over the weekend, Layne completed 11 of his 25 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. Layne also rushed for a touchdown in the game.

Backup QB Jack Wagner will now take the reins as the Vandals QB.

"We are fired up about Jack, he has a lot of ability and it is a great opportunity for him," Idaho head coach Jason Eck said.

The redshirt freshman from Tualatin, Oregon, played in two games last year, rushing for 42 yards and throwing for 41 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Wagner rushed for five yards and threw an interception against Oregon over the weekend.

Wagner will take the field for the first time as the Vandals starting QB this Saturday, September 7, when they take on the Wyoming Cowboys in Laramie. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. You can catch the game on TRU TV.
