Idaho prepares for major test against No. 2 Montana State

Vandals hoping to avoid back-to-back losses at home.

MOSCOW, Idaho — The week Idaho fans have had circled on their calendars all season long is finally here, the Vandals welcome the second ranked Montana State Bobcats to the Kibbie Dome on Saturday.

"This Montana State team is excellent. What Coach Vigen has done there over the last few years is really impressive. They have really been a national power and it is easy to see why, they are very good on offense and defense and we will need to play a full four quarter game of our best football to have an opportunity to win this game," Idaho head coach Jason Eck said.

The Vandals will have to contend with the dual look from Montana State's quarterbacks: Tommy Mellott and Sean Chambers.

"The quarterbacks are each a little different, Tommy is so fast, he can really get to the perimeter and make things happen and miss some tackles; Chambers is a load. He is a gigantic human being and is physical with the downhill runs, so he is tough to stop, especially on third and short," Eck said.

It will be the second consecutive sellout at the Kibbie Dome, but Coach Eck hopes his team can handle the atmosphere better than they did in the Montana game.

"We need to make sure the crowd and the atmosphere does not affect us. We can't get too hyped up and commit some unforced errors like false starts and snapping the ball on the wrong cadence, but with this being our second sold out game in a row, I think we will be used to that and we can handle our nerves better," Eck said.

Following the Montana game where Gevani McCoy was sacked six times and threw two interceptions, Coach Eck believes a more efficient run game will help lessen the pressure on his quarterback.

"We need to run the ball better this week and eat clock and keep their offense off the field, because their offense is very good," Eck said.

The Vandals and Bobcats will kick it off at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon at the Kibbie Dome.
