Carrie Eighmey leaving Idaho for South Dakota head coaching job

Eighmey led the Vandals to a 15-16 record in her only season in Moscow.

MOSCOW, Idaho — Idaho head women's basketball coach Carrie Eighmey is leaving the school to accept the same position at the University of South Dakota, the university confirmed Monday evening.

Eighmey led the Vandals to a 15-16 record in her only season in Moscow and had to deal with the loss of the team's leading scorer, Hope Butera, to injury midway through the season.

Prior to Idaho, Eighmey had spent the previous eight years at Nebraska-Kearney where she led the Lopers to three consecutive NCAA D-II tournaments including a Sweet 16 appearance.

This offseason Eighmey had added notable transfers this offseason including Colorado transfer Ruthie Loomis-Goltl, Cal State Fullerton transfer Hope Hassman, Louisiana Tech transfer Anja Bukvic and Stephen F. Austin transfer Tyler McCliment-Call.

It now remains to be seen if any of those players will stay committed to the Vandals or if they will follow Eighmey to South Dakota.
