Five Vandals, Chism and Jones named to first team All-Big Sky team

Three Vandals, Gobel and Wortham named to second team.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Big Sky All-Conference football teams were announced Tuesday. Several Idaho Vandals and Eastern Washington Eagles were featured.

Five Vandals were named to the first team: quarterback Gevani McCoy, running back Anthony Woods, wide receiver Hayden Hatten, cornerback Marcus Harris and kicker Ricardo Chavez.

McCoy has thrown for 2,420 yards and 14 touchdowns this season with a 66.3 percent completion mark.

Woods has rushed for 959 yards and 14 touchdowns in a sparkling sophomore campaign. His season was highlighted by a five touchdown performance against the Eags.

Hatten has 74 receptions for 980 yards and nine touchdowns in his final season in Moscow.

Harris has 42 tackles, 10 passes defensed and two interceptions on the season including a game sealing pick six against Northern Colorado.

Chavez went 14-16 on field goals during the regular season and was 36 of 37 on extra points. He was good on three kicks from 50 plus yards.

As for the Eastern Washington Eagles, wide receiver Efton Chism III and cornerback Marlon Jones Jr. were named to the first team as well.

Chism had a career high in receptions with 83 for a career high 927 yards and scored eight touchdowns this season.

Jones had 30 tackles and three passes defensed to go along with three interceptions including two pick sixes in his final season in Cheney.

Idaho wide receiver Jermaine Jackson was named to the All-Conference second team as both a wide receiver and punt returner and Chavez was named to the second team as a punter.

Idaho defensive back Sean McCormick was also named to the second team as a special teamer.

Eastern Washington tight end Blake Gobel was named to the second team along with backup quarterback Michael Wortham, who was named to the second team as a kick returner.

Eastern Washington quarterback Kekoa Visperas was named honorable mention along with Idaho offensive lineman Ayden Knapik, EDGE Keyshawn James-Newby, defensive lineman Dallas Afalava, linebackers Xe'ree Alexander and Tre Thomas, safety Tommy McCormick and Jackson as a kick returner.

The Vandals will host the winner of Nicholls and Southern Illinois in round two of the FCS playoffs on December 2nd at 7 pm at the Kibbie Dome.

Eastern Washington finished the season at 4-7, but AD Tim Collins announced head coach Aaron Best will return next season.
