WSU falls to Pitt in Sweet 16 volleyball matchup

The Cougs put up a fight but were swept by Pitt 3-0 with the sets falling 25-20,25-13, and 25-16.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — The fourth-seeded Washington State Cougs fell to top-seed Pitt in the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament Thursday in a Sweet 16 matchup. 

The Cougs put up a fight but were swept by Pitt 3-0, with the sets falling 25- 20, 25- 13, and 25-16. 

During the match, Pia Timmer set a new WSU program record with career ace No. 151, overtaking the previous record set by her former teammate Penny Tusa. 

Pitt moves on to face No. 2 seed Lousiville on Saturday for a chance to move on to the Final Four. 

WSU's season comes to a close after a 26-7 record.
