PULLMAN, Wash. — The search for Washington State University's new head basketball coach is over, and he's only a little more than an hour away from Pullman.
Washington State has announced the hiring of Eastern Washington's David Riley as the Cougs next head coach. Riley has earned back-to-back Big Sky Coach of the Year honors (2023 and 2024).
Riley is no stranger to the Inland Northwest, he was born in Seattle and played basketball at Whitworth.
The 35-year-old has spent more than a decade working his way up the ladder at Eastern Washington before becoming the Eagles head coach in 2021.
In his three seasons as head coach at EWU, Riley has compiled a 62-38 record with two conference regular-season titles and an NIT appearance in 2023.
Riley's hire comes after the departure of Kyle Smith who led the Cougs to a 25-10 record this season and the school's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2008. WSU lost to Iowa State in the round of 32.
