PULLMAN, Wash. — For the third week in a row, WSU redshirt freshman guard Myles Rice is the PAC-12 freshman of the week.
Rice is the first Cougar to earn three straight weekly honors in program history. He also becomes the most decorated freshman in WSU history with his sixth weekly award of the season.
Rice had 21 points and nine rebounds in Saturday's victory over Oregon which vaulted the Cougs into sole possession of second place in the PAC-12 standings.
Rice is currently the Cougs' leading scorer, averaging 15.6 points per game, and is the fourth-leading freshman scorer in program history.
The WSU redshirt freshman has been in the program for three years, but after redshirting his freshman season and battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma last season, he is finally receiving his opportunity to shine.
"The freshman of the week awards are a little crazy because this is my third year in college, but this is my first year actually playing so I am seeing things and going out there and feeling things for the first time just like all of the other freshmen. Some people may say I am a freshman, some people may say I am not a freshman, but I am just going out there and trying to win games," Rice said.
WSU hosts Cal on Thursday night, seeking its sixth consecutive win. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM at Beasley Coliseum.
