SEATTLE — It's almost time for one of the most storied rivalries in college football.
The 116th Apple Cup between the Washington State Cougars and the Washington Huskies kicks off soon, but this year's Apple Cup is a bit different from past years.
Both teams are 2-0 to start the year, but this is the first time in over six decades the teams will face off as non-conference opponents. WSU remains in the Pac-12, while the Huskies are now competing in the Big Ten Conference.
WSU is coming off a massive victory against Texas Tech in Pullman, while the national championship runners-up Huskies are looking to build off its 30-9 win against Eastern Michigan.
Game time, channel and how to watch
The 116th Apple Cup kicks off Saturday, September 13 at 12:30 p.m. from Lumen Field, which is where the Seattle Seahawks play their home NFL games.
The way you can watch Saturday's Apple Cup matchup might be different from what you are used to. Saturday's game will be aired on Peacock.
Washington State Cougars vs Washington Huskies
The Huskies have won the last two Apple Cups, most recently beating the Cougars 24-21 thanks to a walk-off game-winning field goal.
The Huskies have dominated the all-time series, holding a record of 73-32-6 against WSU.
The Cougars will look to get back into the win column Saturday afternoon from Seattle, led by WSU QB John Mateer.
WSU and UW will each have new QBs behind center this weekend. Mateer is taking over for Cam Ward, who is now the quarterback for the University of Miami, Florida. Will Rogers is taking over for Michael Penix Jr., who was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy last season and was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
WSU Head Coach Jake Dickert and UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch will also face off for the first time on Saturday.
