PULLMAN, Wash. — The Apple Cup rivalry is staying in Washington until 2028.

Washington State University and the University of Washington have agreed in principle to continue the Apple Cup for another five years. Both sides are still finalizing the terms, but WSU announced the traditioned rivalry is here to stay.

“While there is certainly passion on both sides, there is a common desire to represent the great state of Washington in the annual showdown," said WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun.  "We are appreciative for this collaboration with Troy Dannen and the University of Washington to ensure the game continues for years to come.”

The two campuses will alternate hosting the series. In 2024, the Apple Cup will take place in Seattle at Lumen Field. WSU will host at Gesa Field in 2025 and 2027. UW will host games at Husky Stadium in 2026 and 2028.

Washington is hosting the 2023 Apple Cup at UW's Husky Stadium.

“The Apple Cup tradition is beloved by Huskies, Cougars and football fans across Washington and beyond, so one of my priorities has been to ensure that it continues into this new era,” said University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce. “I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to continue this tradition, and to kick off the new era at Lumen Field before returning to each campus. This is a win for our fans, our universities and the state of Washington.”

This year's edition of the storied rivalry marks the 115th year. The winning team is given the Apple Cup trophy by the Washington State Governor.
