SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners have acquired infielder/outfielder Luke Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infielder Jose Caballero.
Raley hit .249 with 19 home runs and 49 runs batted and stole 14 bases in 118 games for the Rays last season. He will be a much needed left-handed bat to balance out the Mariners roster.
Raley figures to join Mitch Haniger and Julio Rodriguez in the new look Mariners outfield this season.
"We're thrilled to add Luke to the middle of our lineup as a left-handed bat with positional versatility," Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said in a press release.
Caballero hit .221 with four home runs and 26 runs batted in and stole 26 bases for the Mariners this past season in his first taste of the major leagues.
The Mariners have Sam Haggerty, Josh Rojas and the newly acquired Luis Urias on their roster to fill in their infield positions around Ty France and JP Crawford.
