ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday it has traded outfielder Richie Palacios in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Andrew Kittredge from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Kittredge, 33, missed parts of the 2022 and 2023 Major League Baseball seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He returned in August 2023 and finished with a 2-0 record and a 3.09 ERA in 14 games.
He helped the Rays earn a Wild Card berth and made one scoreless relief appearance in the opening-round playoff series versus the Texas Rangers.
The 33-year-old was an American League All-Star selection in 2021 when he appeared in 57 games and posted a 1.88 ERA.
In seven seasons with Tampa Bay, he has recorded an 18-7 record and a 3.65 ERA.
“We are excited to add Andrew’s experience and proven abilities to our bullpen,” Cardinals’ President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said in a press release. “Prior to his elbow injury, Andrew was an All-Star reliever, and we think his addition will benefit us greatly now that he is back to full health.”
Palacios, 26, was acquired from the Cleveland Guardians on June 16, 2023, and was assigned to the Memphis Redbirds.
He joined the Cardinals roster in mid-August and appeared in 32 games.
