Washington State men's basketball loses another starter to transfer portal

Reports say WSU forward Andrej Jakimovski entered the transfer portal on Friday.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Only a week after a loss in the NCAA March Madness tournament, Washington State men's basketball has said goodbye to many of their players who have entered the transfer portal. 

WSU starting forward Andrej Jakimovski, announced on X that he has entered the transfer portal on Friday. In the X post, Jakimovski thanks his family and friends for their support. He expressed gratitude towards the fans and states that due to the recent changes at Wazzu he feels a "responsibility to see what is best for my basketball future."

In his post he says, "...I have decided to enter the transfer portal while also considering testing the NBA draft waters. However, I want to emphasize that there is always a chance for me to return as a Coug for my last year." 

Jakimovski started at WSU in 2020 as a freshman. During his inaugural season, he started in 19 games, averaging 5.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.  

He has played four years with the Cougs, during his 2024 season he averaged 9.7 points, 5.8 three-pointers and 5.6 rebounds per game. Jakimovski also helped Wazzu to their first March Madness appearance since 2008. 

The Cougs lost their head coach, Kyle Smith, earlier this week to Stanford. A big loss for the Cougs is also star freshman, Myles Rice who announced on Thursday, that he entered the transfer portal.
