PULLMAN, Wash. — It's been a disappointing last couple of weeks for Washington State, who has lost their last two games to unranked opponents by three points. Their College Football Playoff hopes, which were alive heading into the two-week stretch, are now gone. They still have their eye on a bowl game, but things have taken a negative turn.
They also have rumors swirling about potential departures in the offseason. Offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle is speculated to be taking a look at other coaching openings. On the other hand, defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding may be on the hot seat after a defensive performance where the Cougs gave up 41 points and 484 yards to an offense that hadn't scored more than 20 points in their last three games.
"I wouldn’t be sitting in this seat without upward mobility in this profession," Dickert said. "I want what’s best for them. You have to eliminate those distractions and be where your feet are."
One thing is for certain: this senior class has made an impact, especially in a college sports landscape where "senior" can mean six months or six years of commitment to a program.
"I'm excited, and just encourage everyone to come out and support this senior class," Dickert said. "I think any one of us could say, like he said, they did stay here, and it was important to them to build a great program, and I think we've had a great season. I know everyone feels down right now. I'm with that. But, at the end of the day, these kids have really honored what it's like to wear that logo. So, honor them by showing up and supporting them this weekend."
The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday on KSKN 22.
