Senate committee to review budgets, litigation, and future plans of Pac-12 conference

The committee is expected to give a presentation that covers the litigation pertaining to the conference as well as discuss the athletic budgets at both UW and WSU.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — On the heels of the Pac-12 dissolving to just two schools, on Tuesday, a Senate panel in Olympia will discuss the future of UW and WSU athletic programs.

The Senate Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee is calling the meeting a work session. They plan on looking at the changes from the past year’s conference realignment that left only Washington State and Oregon State remaining in the Pac-12. The University of Washington is headed to the Big 10 for the 2024 season.

The committee staff is expected to give a presentation that covers the litigation pertaining to the conference. They also are expected to discuss and go over the athletic budgets at both UW and WSU.

Representatives from both schools will be in attendance and have been told to be prepared to discuss the future of their athletic programs.

Back in November, a Whitman County judge declared Washington State and Oregon State Universities would have full voting rights on the future of the Pac-12 as the other schools abandoned those rights when they chose to leave the conference.

Wednesday’s work session will get underway at 8 a.m.
