PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University Athletic Director Pat Chun is leaving to take the same position at the University of Washington, the western Washington university announced Tuesday.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Chun is finalizing a six-year deal to be UW’s Athletic Director.
The hire comes a week after UW Athletic Director Troy Dannen left after just six months on the job.
The news of Chun’s move comes as Washington State University is navigating the Pac-12 disintegrating and the school trying to figure which conference they will play in. Chun was instrumental in hiring Kyle Smith and Kamie Etheridge as well as promoting football coach Jake Dickert.
Kirk Schulz, the president of WSU, issued a statement on Chun's departure, stating in part he is "disappointed by his departure."
Chun worked at Ohio State for over a decade before getting his athletic director job in 2012 at Florida Atlantic University. In 2018, he became a Coug. The hire made him the first Asian American athletic director at a Power 5 school.
