COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Changes are coming to Coeur d’Alene’s Ice Arena and the CDA Hockey Academy. The campus is seeing major growth in hockey participation, which is why both facilities plan to add more amenities.
Within the next year, the community will see a lot of growth on the campus.
One player who just can’t get enough of the ice is Ben Albers. “I love it enough to do it every day and multiple times a day,” Albers, a CDA Hockey Academy athlete, said.
The ice arena is already in the process of building a second sheet of ice. It will include new lockers, additional seating and more opportunities for athletes to practice and play. “The new rink coming in, I’m excited to see when they break dirt,” Albers said.
Academy Director Jeremy Mylymok said as the love of game grows, so does the demand for time on the ice.
"That door is pretty much revolving from 6 a.m. until midnight every day, so it's a busy facility,” Mylymok said.
Right next door to the Frontier Ice Arena is the CDA Hockey Academy facility, and they’re eager to start expanding as well.
Plans are in place to build a new multi-sport facility on the site, providing more classrooms and a small ice rink for skills practice.
“We can’t imagine when this place is done and what it will look like and the growth we’re going to have and the excitement it’s going to cause, not just for our academy, but for the City of Coeur d’Alene,” Mylymok said.
The Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy can start moving forward with its plans once the City Council approves its request for annexation and zoning change at Tuesday night's meeting.
