Leach prepares for Arizona, has plenty of thoughts on mustaches

Mike Leach held his weekly press conference in Pullman on Monday.

There are just two games left on Pac 12 schedule for Wazzu. Arizona is traveling to Martin Stadium this week, but if you’re a Cougs fan, it’s pretty difficult to not look ahead Washington two weeks from now. Not only could the Cougs and Huskies be playing for an Apple Cup, the could also be playing for a trip to the Pac-12 Championship. Mike Leach though has one message: This is Arizona week.\

"This week the only game we play in Arizona. There's nothing more important that Arizona. Anything who does anything other than that is wrong."

Speaking of Arizona, the Cougs got crushed by them last year, 58-37. The main reason for that: one Khalil Tate, who had nearly 150 yards rushing and passed for 275.

First of all I think our defensive plan is part of what made him dangerous. I think we had some self inflicted wounds. I didn't think we adjusted very good and I also think we were pretty much in a situation where if one guy screwed up they were going to get a lot of yards. I think that puts too much stress in order to successfully defend him. I think we approached it aggressively which I liked at the time but I didn't think it was the best approach.

Obviously Leach has some things he wants to clean up on the defensive end.

Leach’s celebrity nationally has obviously grown over the last few weeks, and last night it got a little bigger with a tweet about, of all people, Burt Reynolds.

"This whole obsession with that (Minshew's mustache) kind of reminds me of Burt Reynolds. First of all, Gardner kind of looks like Burt Reynolds a little bit. There is kind of a Smokey and the Bandit vibe with the whole thing. He may not even know who Burt Reynolds is, which wouldn't surprise a bit if he doesn't. I've been thinking about this because there's a lot of mustaches out there and why has Gardner's taken ahold in the fashion that it has and it's a little curious to me. But part of it, I do think his face carries a mustache well. I remember, and some of it's a little generational, but growing up you always heard about Burt Reynold's mustache."

There’s no doubt that this team is definitely having fun down the home stretch. Arizona and WSU kicks off late at 7:30 on ESPN on Saturday.
