'It's a lot of pride': The Goldsmiths carry on basketball family lineage at Freeman

The fourth generation Goldsmiths include two sisters that are cousins to two brothers. They have every grade covered.

ROCKFORD, Wash. — The Freeman boys and girls basketball teams are both having phenomenal seasons.

Both teams are playing for the Northeast 1A title games on Wednesday against Deer Park. However, that's not the only similarity these two teams have. If you look at the boys and girls basketball rosters for the Scotties, you'll find four Goldsmiths.

Jordyn and Jaycee are sisters. Quin and Dylan are brothers. The girls and the boys are cousins.

They have every grade covered. Jaycee is a freshman, Quin is a sophomore, Jordyn is a junior, Dylan is a senior.

Their basketball family tree at Freeman goes all the way back to the 1930's. Their great grandmother played at Lindbergh High School, which would later become Freeman High School.

Roberta Gerke was the Goldsmith cousins great grandma.

Now this fourth generation caries on the family tradition nearly 90 years later.

"It's a lot of pride," Dylan said. "Our last name is a pretty big thing around here, and it's good to continue the great representation of the Goldsmiths here at Freeman."

"Being the fourth generation of Goldsmiths at Freeman is pretty special," Jordyn said. "Everyone knows who we are, and it's just super cool."

They don't quite agree who is the best among the current Goldsmiths. What isn't up for debate is these four have helped the boys and girls teams be the best in the Northeast 1A so far this season.

They are gearing up for that district title game on Wednesday,

"It's pretty awesome to see how similar our situations have been to get here to this game, and the positions we have been put in are pretty awesome," Quin said.

All four have the same goal in mind, and that's to make it to the state tournament.

"This journey is something not a lot of people get to experience all the time so it's super cool to experience that with the three of them," Jordyn said.

Being a Goldsmith is not only a family thing, but a Freeman thing.

With how these teams are playing, they continue to make the Goldsmith family proud.
