SPOKANE, Wash. - On Thursday, KREM 2 News featured Gonzaga Prep standout Evan Weaver and his pending decision on where he would play college football.
Weaver was supposed to announce his decision on August 18, but when you know, you know.
Weaver made a follow-up visit to Cal on Friday and said there was no need to wait any longer for him to commit to Sonny Dykes and the Golden Bears.
The G-Prep senior tweeted out a few pictures on Twitter, making his decision official. He spurned both the Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars, along with Boise State, Arizona and Utah.
Weaver is a big get for Cal as they have some serious deficiencies defensively. The G-Prep senior was our American Family Insurance ALL-USA Inland Northwest defensive MVP last season tallying 123 tackles, 36 of which were for a loss. Sprinkle in 14 sacks and six forced fumbles, and Weaver fits the profile of "a beast."
Weaver said once he makes his decision it is final, and the Bullpup said he could not be any happier about his decision.
"They like my athleticism," Weaver said.
"They like my build and how I can move around the football field--my motor, my sideline-to-sideline ability."
Weaver said coaches were ecstatic to gain his commitment, and said they told him he will make their program thrive.
"They see me as a stand-up rover, defensive end. I'll be able to go middle linebacker, outside linebacker and then also have my hand in the dirt."
Weaver cannot officially sign with the Golden Bears until February.
