SPOKANE, Wash. — It was a big day in the rankings for Inland Northwest basketball teams. Gonzaga made their return to the Top 25, ranked number 23 after several weeks of being on the outside looking in. Washington State jumped two spots to number 19 after knocking off #4 Arizona then losing to Arizona State.
Gonzaga has been out of the Top 25 rankings since January 15. The fall ended the Zags 142-week streak of appearing in the rankings. On the court recently, the Zags have won six games in a row and 13 of their last 15 enroute to being ranked again.
The Zags have a tough final two games to close out the regular season. They are taking on San Francisco and Saint Mary’s, both on the road.
CBS Sports Bracketology has the Zags in a play-in game as an 11-seed in the Midwest region of the March Madness bracket.
Washington State had a roller coaster of a week that ended up with them jumping to number 19 in the polls. The Cougs spent their week in Arizona and it started off hot. WSU went into #4 University of Arizona and beat the Wildcats 77-74.
Riding that high, the team went to Tempe and fell flat, falling to Arizona State University 73-61.
Although they had the ugly loss at ASU, the win against Arizona catapulted them two spots higher in the poll.
Washington State closes out their regular season with games three home games against USC, UCLA and Washington.
