SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga men's and women's basketball teams will be sporting something a little different from their regular navy blue for their games this weekend in honor of Native American Heritage Month.
The teams partnered with Nike N7 to create customized turquoise uniforms, a color that symbolizes friendship and fellowship in Native American culture.
"With four Native American tribes in the Spokane area, and 29 in the state of Washington, GU and Nike N7 are teaming up to leverage basketball as a way of showing Native American youth that physical activity can have a profound effect on future generations," GU Sports Information Director Grace Whitely said in a release.
According to Whitely, N7 represents Nike's mission to inspire and enable two million Native American and Aboriginal youth in North America to participate in sport and physical activity.
