ANAHEIM, Calif. — Gonzaga basketball is going to the Elite 8 after beating Florida State in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
Zags fans came out in support of their team, but some had trouble getting down to the game.
Leo and Laura Eslick from Valley, Washington decided to make the trek from to Anaheim — where the game was played — by car.
They left bright and early at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. It’s about a 20 hour trip, which ended up becoming longer for them because of car trouble.
They heard a strange noise coming from their Mini Cooper on their travels while driving through Pasco. They had no choice but to pull over and get it checked out at a mechanic.
What they found out is that their right bearing was in bad shape, and they couldn’t get it fixed because parts had to be shipped in from Seattle. So they ditched their car, got a rental and got on with their trip, excited to see their Zags.
They said about six to seven hours was added to their journey. They made it yesterday just hours before the Sweet 16 game.
They aren’t quite sure how they are getting home yet, but at least their persistence was rewarded by the Zags moving on in the tournament.
The Eslicks are also sticking around for the Elite 8 game.
