SPOKANE, Wash. — One of the best players on the Gonzaga women's basketball team was nationally recognized on Monday.
Gonzaga forward Yvonne Ejim was named to the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Watch List. The award is given to the best player in all of Division I women's college basketball.
Ejim led the Zags in scoring last year with 19.7 points per game, along with 8.7 rebounds a game. Ejim had 15 double-doubles last year. Ejim had 16 games last year where she scored at least 20 points, and she scored at least 10 points in every game last year.
The reigning WCC Player of the Year and WCC Defensive Player of the Year was also named Becky Hammon Player of the Year for her performance in the 2023-24 season. She also represented Team Canada in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Ejim is one of 50 players on the Watch List, including UConn's Paige Bueckers, USC's JuJu Watkins, LSU's Flau'jae Johnson and Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo.
