SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga University women’s basketball head coach, Lisa Fortier, was named to the Werner Ladder Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Watch List in the midst of a stellar season.
Fortier has led the Zags into the AP Top 25 where they sit at No. 16 ahead of their game versus San Francisco on Thursday.
This is Fortier’s 10th year at GU, and according to the 2022-23 GU women’s record book, she is the only coach in program history to have six 20-win seasons in their first seven seasons.
According to the record book, Fortier brought the Bulldogs to new heights and has led the team to 18 West Coast Conference regular-season titles.
Fortier has led GU to a 26-2 overall record season, so far, going undefeated (13-0) in conference play. With only three games remaining, Fortier’s Zags clinched the regular-season WCC title after their win against Pacific (91-78) on Saturday.

According to the Naismith Trophy website, the Watch List is "Presented annually to the most outstanding men’s and women’s college basketball coach who achieves tremendous on-court success."
The late-season top 15 was announced Wednesday, this list includes Fortier.
The National Semi-finalists will be announced Mar. 14. The finalists will be announced Mar. 25.
The winner of the award will be announced on Feb. 3, 2024.
