SPOKANE, Wash. — A big triumph for the Gonzaga women’s basketball team as they jump two spots in the AP poll, the Zags now sit at #17.
This comes despite not having superstar Yvonne Ejim for their last game. Ejim was recruited by the Canada's Senior Team to help Canada qualify for the Olympics. Ejim will be back in the McCarthey Athletic Center for the next GU game.
The Bulldogs are on a strong winning streak of 18 consecutive wins with a 24-2 record this season.
The run started after a 81-70 loss against previously ranked #20 Louisville (now #18). They picked things up and gained their confidence after upsetting #3 Stanford.
Since then the Zags have been making Spokane proud. The Zags debuted on the AP poll at #23 on week 5. Since then they haven’t dropped from the top 25 but they have jumped around in the rankings. On week 16 they jumped up to #16. Week 13 brought frustration as the Zags maintained their winning streak but they dropped to #19 in the poll.
The GU team will continue conference play in Moraga, California against Saint Mary's on Thursday, February 15 at 4:30 p.m.
