Ejim flirts with triple double as Gonzaga women knock off New Mexico 81-68

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Gonzaga women's basketball team won its first road game of the season, knocking off New Mexico 81-68, thanks to a dominant performance on the boards.

Gonzaga outrebounded New Mexico 46-28 and had 16 offensive rebounds to the Lobos' eight.

The star of the game was senior forward Yvonne Ejim, who flirted with a triple double in a spectacular 26 point, 17 rebound and eight assist performance.

Destinee Hooks had 24 points for the Lobos in the losing effort.

The game was tied early in the second half before an Ejim layup would put the Zags up two. Claire O'Connor would score five straight of her 10 points to help give GU a four point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Gonzaga outscored the Lobos 24-15 thanks to a pair of threes from both 
Inȇs Bettencourt and Esther Little to stick the dagger in New Mexico.

Maud Huijbens had 15 points and Bettencourt had 14 on four made threes to help lift the Gonzaga offense.

The Bulldogs improve to 4-2 and now head to the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam tournament. GU will take on Missouri State on Thanksgiving Day at 2:30 pm.

Gonzaga will also face Texas Tech and Florida State in the Virgin Islands.
