SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga women's basketball team made big strides by being selected in the top 16 seeds by the NCAA women's basketball selection committee.
It was announced on ESPN2 that the Bulldogs were selected as a top 4 seed in the tournament, being placed at the 15 seed overall.
This could mean the Zags will be playing the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament at home in the McCarthey Athletic Center before moving on to the Portland regional. We will bring you more on ticketing and game times when we have the information.
This rank does not change the AP top 25 poll. The GU women are still ranked No. 16.
This all comes after the Zag women wrapped up West Coast Conference play going undefeated in the regular season with a 90-40 win over the Portland Pilots on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are riding a 23-game win streak, tying the program's longest winning streak set during the 2004-05 season.
The Zags will not play until the semifinals of the WCC tournament in Las Vegas on Mar. 11.
We are only two weeks away from the NCAA March Madness Selection Sunday where the selection committee will announce the full tournament brackets. This will include teams, their seeds and the regions they will be playing in. '
Selection Sunday is on Mar. 17 this year at 5 p.m. The men's will occur two hours earlier at 3 p.m.

These preliminary, in-season rankings started in 2015 and are offered as a look into the committee's point of reference for seeding and selection.
Along with seed the teams will be given a region, either in New York or Oregon. According to NCAA's website, this will give each team a sense of the conditions they may face.
