SPOKANE, Wash. — Kaylynne Truong hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead No. 19 Gonzaga over Pepperdine 83-46 on Thursday night for the Bulldogs' 17th straight win.
The Bulldogs (23-2, 10-0 West Coast Conference) won their 31st straight home game, the second-best current streak behind No. 1 South Carolina's 53 straight. It was Gonzaga's 13th consecutive win over the Waves (5-18, 1-9), who have lost nine straight.
Gonzaga cruised to the win despite missing leading scorer Yvonne Ejim, who is with the Canadian national team for three games in Hungary this weekend as it attempts to qualify for the Olympics. Maud Huijbens got her first start for the Bulldogs and finished with eight points.
Kayleigh Truong added 14 points, Eliza Hollingsworth 13 and Brynna Maxwell 11 for Gonzaga, which shot 49%, made 10 of 24 from the arc and had a 44-29 rebounding advantage.
Jane Nwaba had 11 points and nine rebounds for Pepperdine.
Maxwell, Gonzaga's second-leading scorer this season, had just two points in the first half then opened the second with two 3-pointers. The Bulldogs pulled away from the Waves with a 27-point third period to go up 63-36. Gonzaga led by as many as 39 late.
Gonzaga scored the first nine points and last the eight in the first quarter to lead 17-9. Kaylynne Truong hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Bulldogs' final points of the first half and a 36-22 lead.
Pepperdine is at Portland and Gonzaga is host to Loyola Marymount on Saturday.
