Gonzaga women's basketball sweeps weekly WCC awards

Yvonne Ejim was named the WCC Player of the Week, while Allie Turner was named the WCC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga women's basketball team swept the weekly West Coast Conference awards following victories over Rice and New Mexico last week. 

Forward Yvonne Ejim was named the WCC Player of the Week for the tenth time in her career, while guard Allie Turner was named the WCC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

Ejim had a tremendous week averaging 24 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in the two victories, including a 26 point, 17 rebound and eight assist performance Sunday against the Lobos.

All in all, Ejim was 20-28 from the field and posted back-to-back 20-point double-doubles for the third time in her career. 

Turner averaged eight points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists in the pair of wins and hit a trio of three-pointers against Rice.

The Zags are 4-2 and will now head to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam tournament. GU will face Missouri State on Thanksgiving Day at 2:30 pm.
