Gonzaga senior forward Ben Gregg holding second annual Back to School fundraiser in Portland

Gregg is hoping to raise $15,000 to treat 30 underprivileged children to a shopping spree.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga senior forward Ben Gregg is holding his second annual Back to School fundraiser in his hometown of Portland.

Gregg is hoping to raise $15,000 to treat 30 underprivileged children to a back to school shopping spree.

Last year, Gregg's event was a success as he treated 20 local children to a limousine ride, shopping spree and a haircut thanks to donations.

Gregg's former teammate Chet Holmgren made a donation to get the total donation number to $10,000 last year.

Gregg hopes to continue building the event year after year to be able to assist more underprivileged youths in Portland.

The idea for this fundraiser first came to Gregg when he participated in a similar event here in Spokane put on by the Spokane Quaranteam and Rick Clark of Giving Backpacks.

Following the success of last year's event, Gregg hopes to continue the event as long as he possibly can.

"I was able to have conversations with a lot of the kids last year and some of the stories they had and the things they have been through, it's something that no child should have to go through, so just giving them this day that they can look forward to and get excited for the upcoming school year and take them on a limousine ride and give them 500 dollars to spend on a shopping spree, it is super special," Gregg said.
