ATLANTA -- It is looking more and more like Gonzaga will take on Tennessee this December. According to the Volunteers' new head coach, that matchup will occur in Seattle, providing a jolt to the Zags' annual trip west.
Less than two weeks after mentioning the possibility of a series between the programs, Rick Barnes said Tuesday in Atlanta that they will play in December for the Battle in Seattle. The news was reported by 247Sports.com.
The first year Tennessee head coach said they are working out the deal, but the plan is for Gonzaga to make a return trip to Nashville for another neutral site game. Mark Few has made a habit of facing Barnes' Texas teams in closed door preseason scrimmages.
After facing Cal Poly and South Alabama the last two years on the west side, this would bring a power conference opponent back to the annual game. The two teams met at KeyArena in the 2007 edition of the Battle in Seattle.
